Horace Guthrie Castle's Winning Golf Ball

The ball used by Horace Guthrie Castle when he won the South of Ireland Championship at Lahinch, beating A.C. Lincoln from South Hertfordshire 5 and 3. In the same year he also won Sunningdale's Longman Cup.

 

The remains of this ball with a silver metal band around the circumference engraved to this effect.

 

Horace Guthrie Castle was an England Amateur International Golfer and considered by many to be our greatest club golfer.

 

Born in 1877 in Burgess Hill, Sussex he worked in the stock exchange and died in 1955 at Cuckfield.
