A pair of Georgian silver mounted carved coconuts.
It became something of a tradition during the 18th century to carve and bring home coconut shells as testimony of a journey to distant shores.
This pair are chip-carved all-over with compass-work designs; a reserve to the front of each is engraved with an armorial shield with tulip surmounts and a floral garland. A ribbon banner beneath the shields, one engraved with the date 1794.
Mounted on silver footed stems and with silver-metal rims.
