A fine 19th century cast iron go-to-bed, modelled as a bear and ragged staff, the heraldic emblem associated with the Earldom of Warwick.
The bear's head set with red glass eyes, hinged and opening onto a void for matches, the staff holed at the top to keep a match in readiness. The skirt of the base finely lined all round to serve as the match-strike.
English circa 1850.
