Still life painting, ‘Yellow Chrysanthemums’ painted in oil on canvas and signed by the artist ‘A.F.W Hayward’. Within the original painted ‘Dutch ripple-moulded’ frame retaining a label for ‘The Fine Art Society, Ltd. 148 New Bond Street, W1’; inscribed with the description as above.

Alfred Frederick William Hayward was born in Ontario in 1856, leaving Canada for Europe as an artist. He studied at the Royal Academy Schools where he exhibited on 34 occasions, invariably depicting plants or flowers. Although settling in England, Hayward also enjoyed exhibiting in North America, at the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, the Canadian National Exhibition, and with the National Academy of Design, New York. The Fine Art Society held two one-man exhibitions for A.F.W Hayward; one in 1935, the second, posthumously, in 1945.
