A mid 19th century whaler's tobacco stopper with a flared, cross hatched tamper to one end and a pricker at the other.
Carefully made of whalebone, initially appearing to have been made with the aid of a lathe but in fact entirely whittled.
The central knop with black filled dots; the whole design reminiscent of a whalebone walking cane.
