George Belcher R.A. (1875-1947) drew regularly for Punch, the Tatler and Vanity Fair. 1909 was a big year for George being the first year he exhibited at the Royal Academy and the year that the Leicester Galleries held his first one-man show. In 1931 he was made an Associate of the Academy (ARA), being elevated to Royal Academician in 1946. He died the following year at Chiddingfold, Surrey; a retrospective exhibition of his work being held at Cranleigh Hall in 1954.
