Stella Pitt-Rivers, the wife of George Pitt-Rivers that never was. The third woman to take his name, Stella was one of an array of talented women to pass through George's life but she refused to marry him. In 1990 she created a lasting memorial to George by endowing an academic chair and laboratory at Cambridge; the George Pitt-Rivers Professorship of Archaeological Science.
