A Souvenir of Carlsbad. A box, encrusted with a myriad of natural stones from West Bohemia attractively arranged on five panels, a polished marble oval to the lid engraved in gothic script 'Andenken' (souvenir), and with a diamond shaped nickel escutcheon. Czeck circa 1880.

Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) is a spa town in the west Bohemia region of the Czech Republic. Its numerous thermal springs have made it a popular resort since the 19th century. The riverside spa district is home to several colonnades with columned walkways. Each has a unique character flaunting various architectural styles and an intriguing history. In a sense, these promenade halls have come to symbolize this city, famous for its curative hot springs and founded by Holy Roman Emperor and Bohemian King Charles IV in 1370. A magnet for famous personalities of the 19th century including Russian Czar Peter the Great and composer Ludwig van Beethoven.
