Seventeenth Century Combination Tobacco Box

hover over image to zoom

An English brass tobacco box with a combination locking lid, made circa 1690; once opened we discover the rarely found integral stopper, appropriate for use at the time this box was made. The stopper is small, as were the bowls of early pipes, and the angle at which the bowl met the stem made using this stopper easy.
