Mid eighteenth century engraved copper tobacco box, the lid with the arms of the Seven United Provences; Holland, Zeeland, Gelderland, Utrecht, Friesland, Overijssel and Groningen.
The base engraved with the lion of Holland under attack and either side heads satirical of the Catholic Church.
This box is substantial in scale and the thickness of the metal, it has been better made than usual with a raised band to the lid, base and the edges of both parts. These aspects of making have allowed the box to retain sharp and clear engraving all over.
