A good set of mezzotints depicting the four continents of the globe. Europe, represented by Britannia, is surrounded by symbols of Art, Music, The Sciences and holding a cornucopia to suggest ‘plenty’. America is represented by a European figure in the company of a native child; a young and uneducated people. Asia is shown as an educated civilization but a place not without danger; a European figure being pursued by a crocodile, and Africa a land of hunters and wild animals.
With their original hand colouring, retaining original verre églomisé mounts although now within hand made copies of 18th century print frames.
Provenance with Baynton-Willliams, Knightsbridge, their label to the reverse declaring the prints to be published June 10th 1800 by P. Stampa, Dorrington Street, Leather Market.
