A fine whalebone cane exhibiting five patterns from the carver's 'pattern book'. The top of octagonal design, carved from the tooth of a sperm whale, joins with the conforming shaft turned from a whale's jawbone.
A carved band leads onto a another octagonal section, fluted, separated by a further carved band from a section cross-hatched, separated by yet another band from a complex wrythen section.
A final octagonal band leads onto the longest, neatly worked, wrythen main section which finally finishes with a plain tapering end.
