At the International Exhibition held in London in 1862, Professor Pietro Giusti exhibited several frames of a similar if grander style to this. All were carved in the style of a round 1500. The workshops of Siena had long been famous for their woodcarving and demand for carved wood from wealthy European middle-classes at this time led to a revival in their skills.
The V&A holds a tabernacle frame in their collection, bought from the Professor Pietro Giusti at the exhibition of 1862.
