Push-Up Ejector Brass Candlesticks

hover over image to zoom

A pair of brass candlesticks with side, push-up ejection mechanism, the stem made in two parts with a braised line running top to bottom; the base and stem attached by a hand cut thread.

This candlestick type is closely related to and derived from the baluster stemmed candlestick type defined as  'Huguenot', (see Christies/Eloy Koldeweij. The English Candlestick, 1425-925, p.86). The side eject mechanism appears a little later, with this well-formed lifting knob, around 1710. (Same reference, p.156)
