Painted in oil on canvas and within a period pressed brass with gold lacquer frame.

Michael Appleby of St. James’s

Joseph Leete (1831-1898) was a successful merchant specialising in the export of goods from England to France after the Cobden-Chevalier Treaty of 1860. In 1881 he was awarded the Legion d’Honneur.
