This portrait has been produced as a full size portrait by the Irish artist Benjamin Tartarine Leader after a miniature by fellow Irishman, Frederick Buck of Cork, circa 1815. Signed by the artist lower left, within a good rosewood veneered moulding frame period to the work, circa 1860.

William Lindsey was commissioned as an Ensign in the 97th Queen's Own German Regiment of Foot in May 1814. The regiment was numbered the 97th from 1805 until 1816, when they were re-numbered as the 96th Foot until being disbanded in 1818.
He was brother of Alicia Lindsey who married Capt. Thomas Radley, and great uncle to the artist, B.T. Leader.
Benjamin Tartarine Leader was the son of John Leader, M.D., J.P. of Keale, Co. Cork (1807 - 1880) and Margaret, eldest daughter of Capt. Thomas Radley.
