A small collection of four Welsh tobacco tins each with a motto promoting free trade; 'May No Laws Invade Our Libertys & Trade', 'Success to Trade', 'Liberty, Loyalty And Trade'; 'Prosperity to Trade'. 

The largest: 4 1/8 in x 3 1/4 in x 7/8 in 

The smallest: 3 1/4 in x 2 3/8 in 

Pontypool or Usk circa 1810.

Born in 1723, Adam Smith was to become a moral philosopher and political economist and a leading intellectual in the movement known as the Scottish Enlightenment. In 1776 he published his seminal work, An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations in which he made a strong case for free trade. Adam Smith is considered to be the father of modern economics and this book the most influential on economics ever written.
