"Visiting Greenwich", painted in 1993, oil on canvas by Gillian Whaite and framed by the Royal Academy of Arts. Exhibited at The Museum of Garden History in 1996.This work shows the West Gate of the former Royal Navy College, thought to have been constructed by A Mr. Oliver in 1754 at a cost of 50 guineas. The globes represent a celestial and a terrestrial sphere, each 6 feet in diameter. The terrestrial globe originally showed the course taken by Anson when traversing the world between 1740-1744. A 'View From Lambeth Bridge" by the artist is held in the Museum's Collection, and further works are in the collections of the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers, London and the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, Carnegie-Melon University, Pittsburgh, U.S.A. as well as private collections in Japan and the UK.
