A Perspective View of the Fireworks Display in Green Park

hover over image to zoom

To celebrate the end of the War of the Austrian Succession and the signing of the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle, George II put on a wonderful fireworks display which was held in Green Park from a purpose built structure known as The Temple of Peace.

Handel was commissioned to write the music to accompany this display, during which the temple itself caught fire.

This fine and fascinating engraving is after the work by P. Brookes, engraved by Paul Angier for publication by Robert Sayer in 1749. With good and original colour, within an excellent copy of an eighteenth century print frame.
