Old Sheffield Plate coffee urn with a separate spirit burner and thereby datable to around 1800.
Earlier examples of urns were often described as Tea Kitchins and were being made from around 1760, and exported to America by 1770. Smaller urns such as this were more often intended as coffee urns.
They are somewhat rarer than their larger counterparts which were made for tea or hot water and a number of pattern books show tea urns with smaller, matching coffee urns.
