Watercolour of Northowram Hall, Near Halifax in Yorkshire.

Fred Lawson (1888-1968) was one of Yorkshire's most popular and recognisable artists. He was born in Yeadon near Leeds, won a scholarship to study fine art at Leeds School of Art and again to Kensington College of Art, (now the Royal College of Art). Whilst at the RA he gained silver and bronze medals for drawing. In 1910 Lawson settled in Wensleydale, the area inspiring much of his work. He illustrated several books, including Dale Folk, published in 1927, and is noted for his drawings of Romany people. He showed at the RA, RI, Walker Art Gallery and Royal Glasgow Institute and his work is held in several public galleries including Bradford, Leeds and Wakefield.
