A mid 19th century oil painting by Alexander Christie on a prepared artist board of a young girl, perhaps Norma, (the name on the book spine) in an interior with a red curtain.


Alexander Christie was a Scottish painter born in 1807. He exhibited at the RA in 1853 (No.253) when resident at 20 Forth Street, Edinburgh where he died in 1860.

He also exhibited RSA (72), RHA (2). RA, BI. Elected to ARSA in 1848.


Within a period bird's eye maple frame with shaped gilt-wood spandrel. An exhibition label identifying the artist is pasted to the original wooden backing panel.
