Mezzotint Mary Duchess of Ancaster

A fine mezzotint done by Charles Spooner after the portrait painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds, ‘Printed for Robert Sayer Near Serjeants Inn, Fleet Street’ around the middle of the 18th century. Laid down onto the glass and reverse painted. Within a fine ebonized pine frame with a carved, gilt and sanded slip.

Mary (née Panton), Duchess of Ancaster held the position of Mistress of the Robes to Queen Charlotte. She was the second wife of the 3rd Duke of Ancaster.
