Mariner's Whalebone Cane

An early 19th century mariner's walking cane, the carved wrythen shaft with a plain  octagonal top section running into a conforming handle carved from the tooth of a sperm whale; joined by a band of baleen and centred with an octagonal piece of the same. Of good colour and with an attractive old patina, made circa 1840.
