Marine Scene East Yorkshire attributed to Henry Redmore (1820-1887). Painted in oil on a mahogany panel and within a fine bird's eye maple frame with gilt gesso decoration.

Henry Redmore was a Humberside artist painting marine scenes much influenced by the Scottish marine painter, William Anderson. It is recognised that the Hull artist, John Ward, (1798-1849) may very well have taught Redmore. The influence of the Dutch masters is clearly seen in his work and it is probable that Redmore travelled to Holland; Hull playing an important role in the trade between England and the continent, especially with Germany and Holland.
