Le Theatre d'Eau, French 18th century engraving for a view optique, by Jean-Baptiste Rigaud and published by du Roy, circa 1760. Unframed, retaining the original gouache colouring and full title band.

19.25 in x 10.25 in

The Water Theatre was created between 1671 and 1674 by André Le Nôtre and destroyed in 1775. The grove had been dormant for many years. It now hosts a contemporary garden, respectful of the general context of the park of Versailles and its history.

Located in the gardens of the Palace of Versailles, between the grove of the Star and the Three Fountains, it was originally one of the richest and most complex gardens.
