Artist: James Sharples

An eighteenth century portrait worked in pastel by the Anglo American portraitist, James Sharples. Drawn circa 1800 and within the original giltwood moulding frame with Verre églomisé mount. This example in excellent condition and of unusually large size.

o.s: 16.5 in x 19 in 

James Sharples was born in Lancashire, England, around 1751. An English portrait painter and pastelist, he moved with his family to the United States in 1794 and died in New York City in 1811. He first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1779.
