An exceptional piece of base metalwork; a horn-shaped gilt brass posy holder or tussie mussie, within the original leather-covered presentation case marked with the retailers stamp of Jenner & Knewstub, St. James's Street.
The sprung legs are almost invisible, so accurately is this piece engineered. When a tiny button at the base of the horn is pulled down the legs spring forth and divide allowing the holder to stand as a vase.
There is a finger ring on a chain and a pin to secure the posy.
After the wedding ceremony is completed the bride would take her seat for the breakfast and then be able to place this beside her as a table decoration.
English circa 1860.
Jenner & Knewstub were established around 1865 by Frederick Jenner and Fabian Knewstub.
