A good 'fruit' tea caddy, the Japanese answer to the turned wood fruit caddies of the 19th century.
The leafy stem is carved and threaded; when unscrewed there is revealed another snug fitting stopper to keep the leaves fresh.
Originally deeply stained as an aubergine, now attractively faded.
Japanese circa 1890. In excellent condition.
5 inches high.
