An invitation 'To The Guildhall of the City of London,..... 9th July 1851......at a Ball to Celebrate the Opening of The Great Exhibition.' The pressed and silver leafed card designed by Owen Jones and produced by Thomas de la Rue & Co. Owen Jones was employed as one of the Superintendents of Works for the Great Exhibition and was responsible for the decoration of Joseph Paxton's gigantic cast iron and glass palace. He was also responsible for the arrangement of the exhibits within.

The invitation measuring 8.5 in x 6.25 in,  within a bird's-eye maple frame of the period, overall dimensions; 12.5 in x 10.5 in
