H.M.S. Resistance at The Isle of Dogs

A fine and rare coloured lithograph published by Kell Brothers of Holborn, London, showing the launch of H.M.S. Restistance, April 1861, from the Isle of Dogs.

 

An armour plated steam frigate of the Royal Navy, she was their first to be fitted with a ram resulting in her being given the nick-name, 'Old Ramo'.

 

Some light staining, nearly all to the title margin. A repaired tear bottom centre, 5/8th inch, and another mid left hand margin extending into the image 2 1/2 in.

 

Within a period, bird's-eye maple veneered frame.
