After the portrait  painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds, engraved by Dixon and sold by Ryland & Bryer. Published Sept. 5th 1769. Within the original gilt gesso frame.

The 10th Earl joined the Seven Years War in 1760 as Major-General in command of the Cavalry Brigade in Germany. In the following year, 1761, he wrote the British Army's manual on riding, Military Equitation: or A Method of Breaking Horses, and Teaching Soldiers to Ride - this had already reached a 4th edition by 1793; his methods were adopted throughout the British cavalry.
