A fine oval Georgian tea caddy veneered with harewood and inlaid to the front with a design of trailing convolvulus and to the lid a conforming inlaid oval of curled leaves.


English circa 1780.

The flowers of the convolvulus inlaid to the front of this caddy are most likely veneers of hollywood. When freshly worked this wood is almost white. The white convolvulus is symbolic of purity, sprituality and innocence and was often used on the occassion of a wedding.
