A steel table cat, English, dating from around 1800. Reading the page from a tool maker’s catalogue and it seems these items had many potential uses; described firstly as a ‘Table Cat’ and then as a Muffin Toaster that could also be sold with a fork, or with a ring for plates. A more expensive version came with a bright polished central ball and a double ball version, such as the example held at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, was called a ‘Dog’.
