A fine portrait of a Dutch Naval Officer standing beside cannon, painted in oil on canvas and within a fine period carved and gilded frame. Signed 'Loeff fect.' beside the sitter's right hand epaulette.


Hillebrand Dirk Loeff, 1774-1845. Dutch portrait painter flourishing during the first quarter of the 19th century.


Examples of his work are held at the Rijksmuseum including portraits of Martinus Eekhout  and of his wife, Maria Adriana van der Sluys.
