A truly exceptional teacaddy, the satinwood crossbanded with kingwood and inlaid with flame veneer ovals. The lid lifts to reveal an interior of harewood, again crossbanded with kingwood and beautifully painted with a plentiful basket of flowers, three fine harewood canisters, one for green tea, the other for black, both painted with stems of roses, and a third central canister for the mixed leaves.
This is painted with a design emblematic of love; cupid's quiver of arrows and a hymeneal torch (so called after Hymen, the Greek goddess of marriage).
English circa 1790.
