A fine Scottish horn snuff mull, the hinged lid inset with a brilliant-cut citrine (Cairngorm) engraved as a seal with the initials J.S. (Gothic, in reverse).
In place of the usual curling terminal is a dog's head, meticulously carved, with inlaid eyes made of stag's antler. The tiny ears have been carved so that each uses the white flecks natural to the horn when seen from behind.
Scottish, circa 1820.
