Cowrie Shell & Silver Snuff Box

A Georgian, silver mounted cowrie shell snuff box, the hinged lid finely engraved with a family crest of an arm and fist clutching a dagger, probably that of a Scottish clan, beneath which is engraved in script the owner's initials, 'RW'.

The silver marked to the inside of the lid with three castles for the Assay Office of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the head of George III, and TW, probably for the silversmith Thomas Watson working from The Side, Newcastle.

English/Scottish circa 1800.
