Claude Ferenley was the son of John Ferneley Senior with whom he sometimes collaborated and who had a considerable influence on his son's work. Claude often painted the backgrounds to his father's larger commissions. He was born and lived his entire life in Melton Mowbray, was said to lack drive and ambition, but was endowed with considerable talent.
