A white painted plaster maquette of Florizel II, made when in Stud at Sandringham, signed J W Hardy. Florizel II, a bay colt of 1885, was the eldest of three famous brothers, the other two being Persimmon and Diamond Jubliee. It was as a four year old that he had most success winning his first five races; the Prince of Wales' Plate, Prince's Handicap, Manchester Cup, Ascot Gold Vase and The Goodwood Cup. He won his final start that year, defeating the accomplished mare None the Wiser. At the end of his fifth year problems with his suspensory ligaments forced his retirement from racing and a new life as a stallion. He achieved 11 wins from 22 starts.A WW1 poster for the Blue Cross Fund, centred with a work by J W Hardy, is held at the Imperial War museum.h.20 in x w.20 in, excluding the ebonized base.
