A charming folk art woolwork made by a British sailor depicting home, real or imagined.
The details are both fascinating and informative. A hayrick set upon staddle stones beside a fine thatched farmhouse built with quoins, a path from the white painted gate leading to the doorways and over a bridge to the windmill that pumps water from the stream. There is a duck pond, angler and a cow. Beside the gate is a dovecot and a beech hedge; enclosing the mill is a white-painted picket fence.
The colour retention is excellent and the work is still within the original stained oak frame. Made circa 1860.
