So realistic, this painting is essentially a trompe l'oeil, painted in oil on canvas, signed and dated by the artist; William Taylor, 1844, and within a good gilt molding frame of architectural proportions.

The artist William Taylor exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy; 16 entries between 1812 and 1859. Initially he is recorded as being resident at Mr. Doze's, Brunswick Square, and by 1844 he is in Hitchin, at Foley Place. His last recorded exhibit at the R.A is titled 'A Brace of Partridge'.
