A good treen snuffbox, the bombe shaped sycamore body inlaid with panels of dark chestnut; the lid joined to the body with a five-knuckle brass hinge, the top edge of which is finished with a ripple decoration. Affixed to the inside of the lid is a mirror, cut and beveled around the hinge, presumably to check the state of one's face for snuff after imbibing the powder.
Continental, (France, Holland, Germany) circa 1800.
