A mid Victorian adjustable artists' easel in mahogany by Charles Roberson & Co, the label for when they were in business from 99 Long Acre, London. 


The shelf to hold the work is at the base line of a frame w:19.75 in x h:45.5 in., adjustable in height from a low of 19.25 in. to a maximum height of 40 in. When at the max height to the top of this sliding frame is 92 inches. The 'A' frame that this slides within measures 40 inches at the base tapering to 24 inches at the top. the 'A" frame is h:70 in 


When Charles Roberson split with Miller in 1839, he kept their premises at 51 Long Acre. Roberson's enjoyed a wide ranging reputation throughout the Victorian era and exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851. By the end of the 19th century they employed their own agents in Paris and in 1889 they had opened a further branch in Piccadilly. Charles Roberson was in business at 99 Long Acre from 1853 until his death at this address in 1876 when he was succeeded by his nephew, Charles Park.
