An iron casket of cassone (marriage casket) form with Toledo work decoration, profusely covered with gold and silver wire damascene, the hinged lid with a cast and applied monogram, This hinged lid is released by pressing a decorated button at the front of the cassone’s body and opens to reveal a red velvet lined interior. There is a running band of decoration around the the outer edge of the lid’s interior and the whole casket stands on four turned feet.
Given the marriage chest form of this casket it is likely that the entwined initials in the monogram are those of the marriage couple.
