H.M.S. Vestal

A Chinese School portrait of H.M.S. Vestal in Chinese waters, one of six Condor class screw steel sloops of 10-gun built for the Royal Navy between 1898 and 1900. H.M.S.Vestal served on the China Station, later becoming training ship and tender to HMS Excellent at Portsmouth. Painted on linen, now lined onto canvas, and within a period, Chinese,  carved wood frame.
